Not only are the projects beautiful, but the thing I really like about this book is that he givies you the illustration for the folds then has a picture of what you should get when you follow the illustration. That really helps me understand what it is supposed to look like. This is a great book!

Compelling and thought provoking

Every once in a while, a book comes along that transcends simple story telling. These books leave a lasting impression, giving you the thoughts and the ability to make positive changes to your life. [sic] is one such book, about a group of teenagers who want to break free from the normal constraints of life. They play a compelling game called Eureka and the rules are simple. Once they are tagged, they have 15 minutes to change their life, in whichever way they choose.

Jacob Thorke, a relatively poor teen living in the trailer park, has been pulled in for questioning of the death of his friend, David Bloom. As he slowly recalls the past few years of his life, we find out how Eureka started and the addictive nature of the game. David Bloom is akin to a cultist leader, with magnetism and energy to capture the heart of his group. Without the usual constraints and social norms, these teenagers would do anything to gain David's approval. From arson, to giving their car away, losing their virginity and starting fights, we learn that Eureka is a scary game to play, no matter how life changing it may be.

I was really impressed with [sic] from the get go. While it's less `murder mystery' as the blurb may suggest and more realistic fiction, seeing these teens equipped with Eureka and what they did was really interesting. Eureka removes all the fear in doing things that you think would get you into trouble, for hopes of bettering your life. From the righteous Jacob, to the psychotic and beautiful Emily, to crazy Steven, these teenagers are off the hook. The only thing balancing out their craziness is Nora, the on and off again girlfriend of Jacobs who questions his loyalty to the game.

The writing has its moments of beauty, kind of like a rough diamond. Its simply to convey what Jacob thinks about his own life, and it's really easy to fall into.

[sic] is a simple yet powerful tale about the possibilities of life if you break free from constraints. It's about the freedom to act out your wishes to achieve your dreams, but the flipside is the consequences of these actions can be scary. What would you do if you had 15 minutes to change your life? This book makes you think about those possibilities, and what's holding you back.

A Book I Couldn't Put Down...

As a book editor, I've had the privilege of working directly with many talented, creative writers on hundreds of books. While many of them are great and impressive in their own way, Scott Kelly's books are absolutely unforgettable. Few authors are as imaginative, and few have the ability to use their creativity to spark such unique, well-written, unprecedented story ideas, told in such tight-woven, intriguing writing that you won't be able to put the book down. [sic] is one such book. Kelly pours human emotion, thought, suspense, and story into every word, and like all of his works that I've read, this one is a literary triumph in the very tough game of writing. "You've got fifteen minutes to change your life..." I dare you to try to put this book down after fifteen minutes of immersing yourself in Scott Kelly's work! I know I couldn't!

[sic] is a phenomenal novel by a very promising new writer. For me, the most important thing for any book is pacing, and this book starts off quickly and seriously never lets up. The idea of sticking to a dare, even if it means that it will change your life forever, is an amazing premise, and the author handles it elegantly. He surprised me at every turn.

This is a great book and I'm looking forward to more books by this author. Pick it up if you love page-turners.

Comprehensive in scope of topics

I found this book to be comprehensive in its scope of subtopics included under the main topic of deliverance.There were good summaries of each area or point included, including excellent real life examples from the author’s own life and ministry and examples from other Christian minister’s lives.

Some of the topics discussed were, what deliverance is from a biblical theology standpoint, history of deliverance in the church, who the devil is, signs of demonization, inner healing issues related to deliverance, the connection to the occult, the connection to freemasonry (and renouncing prayers for each level), and guidelines on how to minister deliverance. Each area had good explanations but also each area could have been ( and has been) expanded into whole volumes of books. Mr. Clark did recommend a few books for further study in the beginning of this book.

I especially liked Mr. Clark’s style of writing that was so genuine and authentic. I could really relate to some of his points and they would make me laugh out loud, not out of disrespect but out of understanding. I also especially liked all of the real life examples from his own life. This helped to make, The Biblical Guidebook to Deliverance, a book of experience and wisdom and not just a book of theories.

You may also see sudden drowsiness, facial contortions, screaming, a rigid body, a lack of eye contact, or eyes that roll around, especially rolling back so you can only see the whites of the eyes, and changing voice. Remember, demons do not always manifest, and physical manifestations such as these do not always indicate the presence of demons. Each instance needs to be investigated and evaluated to determine the root cause. The Holy Spirit is always available to guide us with discernment. [page 61-62] [I especially like the way this author does not make sweeping blanket statements but leaves things up for the Holy Spirit to determine.]

One of our goals in deliverance ministry is to rob the demonic of every opportunity to humiliate. If the begin to speak, we command them to be silent…We never allow the demonic to be in control during deliverance. [page 93]

Since Mr. Clark frequently writes and speaks in a way that relates his experiences to how he started off in a place of unbelief and then moved to a place of belief in an area, readers who are unsure as to the reality of demons or unsure as to the need of deliverance or are unsure as to how to go about deliverance at all, will appreciate the story part of how the author got from belief to unbelief in this area.

This book contains excellent introductions into the theology of deliverance and the history of deliverance and other such areas so if you need a good overview or are wondering how a former Baptist preacher has come to believe in deliverance as a charismatic person now, then this book is for you. If you are interested in a detailed book on a particular area of deliverance then you need to seek out other books that are more focused in their coverage.

Very well written and easy to understand

This book is more for people who have not had much experience in this area. If you were raised in a traditional church this would be very helpful for you to understand the subject matter. If you have been in pentecostal circles for some time it revisits a lot of what you probably already have learned. Very well written and easy to understand.

Balanced...lucid..needed

Randy is a graduate from United Theological Seminary and also a doctoral mentor at United, where I teach Evangelization. We have been blessed to work with Randy, who demonstrates an approach to divine healing and deliverance that seeks the best in theory and practice. His book "The Biblical Guidebook to Deliverance" models such an approach. Well-written and researched, this work begins to fill the void among Spirit-filled believers for sound scholarship in the supernatural and among scholars and academics for a faith-filled approach that does not explain away Scripture or the work of the Holy Spirit. I appreciate Randy's balanced ministry, faithful friendship, and humble character as he continues to be a major agent of the Spirit in global renewal.

About the Author

BEHZAD RAZAVI, PhD, Professor of Electrical Enginnering at University of California, Los Angeles, is an award-winning author, researcher, and teacher. His research deals with wireless and wireline transceivers, high-speed communication circuits, and data converters. Author of more than 100 papers and seven popular books, Prof. Razavi is a Fellow of the IEEE, has served as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, and was recognized as one of the top ten authors in the fifty-year history of the International Solid-State Circuits Conference. Interesting and Unique!

3.5 stars - This story gripped me right away. Guy has an eating disorder. He wants to be committed to a psychiatric hospital, but has yet been unable to accomplish that. He is sent to dietician, Xavier, instead.

Xavier is a tad superficial, with a perfect body, good looks, etc. He makes a living telling other people how to eat. Guy is the complete opposite of what he goes for, but there is something about him that he can’t resist and wants to understand. He starts out seeking that understanding wanting to help “fix” Guy. He does this mostly by reading Guy’s blog.

Guy has had problems ever since he was away as an exchange student in France. He has come to hate everything about France and French people due to his stay with a not-so-perfect family. He wants to be normal, but just can’t seem to make himself do what it takes. He starves himself, binge eats, and throws it up after. He wrote a blog about his experiences in the hopes of finding others who feel the same, not ever intending anyone like Xavier to read it.

When he meets Xavier, he wants to impress him, but it seems hopeless when it seems all Xavier wants is for him to eat. On the flip side, Xavier has feelings for Guy, but Guy just doesn’t fit the image of what Xavier wants in a man.

Much of this story, or Guy’s story, is told through Xavier’s reading of Guy’s blog posts. In the early stages, these were quite interesting, but they become a bit drawn out after a while. I kept waiting for the big reveal or cause for Guy’s disorder, and there never really was one. Xavier comes across as so superficial through most of this story that it was hard to like him. He eventually changes his views and allows himself to think differently about Guy. We never really got to see these two connect until close to the end, but I was happy to see it finally happen.

I’ve never read a story about a man with an eating disorder, so this one was quite unique. It was a bit heartbreaking, but, in the end, these guys found a way to meet in the middle and make it work. I found it an interesting story and will definitely be looking to read more from Ms. Bohm in the future.
